Electrical Storm: Side I

INTRODUCTION

GLORIA

SKY BLUE

SO SOON

JUST LOVE

ELECTRICAL STORM

Gloria

When I met you, oh I let you

Down and down some more

When I said those stupid things and watched you disappear across the floor

In the party, with those people

There was a hole where you had stood

Oh, in hindsight, don’t you always, don’t you always look so good

I’ll just sit here,

Rocking, rocking in my easy chair

I’ll just sit here,

Rocking, rocking in my easy chair

I’ll just sit here,

Rocking, rocking in my easy chair

Remembering that fateful night that I blew my chance with her

Gloria!

I’m not asking, I’m not begging, I’m hoping for another try

Cause you’ll never look half as beautiful then as you do now

Oh, I sidestep and I backslide and I’m hanging on the edge of the creek

Oh, I’d rather have those memories than a life for you to tire of me

Sky Blue

The world turns, but Lord it feels so slow

One spark lights, another one loses the glow

I’ve got all these questions,  Lord I know

I’m not the only one

I sit on the porch step and wait for the morning sun to come

Why is the sky blue?

Why is the sea salt?

What’s wrong with Caillou?

I wonder what he’s got?

Is what makes us human, that we know that we do not know?

This terrible chasm, that wise men call the soul

Neil Degrasse Tyson won't you come sit with me for a while

Might not understand, but I’ll do my best and just smile

So Soon

Nourished and loved and honey you grew

You traveled the world and honey you bloomed

Your petals fell softly that sunny afternoon

Oh , so softly, so sweetly, so soon

You wake up and you don’t feel right

You got a million friends but you got no likes

You’re hanging round under neon lights

I don’t know your kind, but  I like you type

And you’re a long way

A long way

A long way

From where you wanna be

I know your every move

I thought it was well understood

That I needed you, you needed me too

So softly, so sweetly, so soon

Just Love

Getting old don't bother me none

These hands of time

Are now bleached by the sun

I miss my friends

I'll say that much

I see my friends through the corridors of time

Linoleum floors and those parallel lines

Reaching now forever until they touch

I see your kids as old as we were then

I hope you take them to the places we played

I'm older than your father now

In this edition of myself

The starry plough blinked above your house

In perfect poise, horizontally right

It’s at a different angle now

It's me that's changed

Do you see the world as we painted it then?

In black and white?

Or the full spectrum?

Are you hardened by experience

Or are you softened by love?

Electrical Storm

I’ve never seen foreshadowing like I see it in your eyes

I know how the clouds roll across your skies

I’ve  knocked on all the letterboxes

I’ve rapped on every door

I’ll see you high above on those miss-numbered floors

Now I’m falling like a teardrop from the sky

Disappearing ‘cause I’m falling from so high

Will you be with me even though we’re bound to  lose?

Will you be with me, though I’ve been away from you?

I cast away the bits and bursts of all I long to keep

Alone, I walk these darkened streets

I find you in the books I read

That stranger’s got your walk

You’re the voice inside my head

I can’t want it to stop

Oh, I’ll return to you one day

Maybe not in this earthly form

Maybe in a series of dreams

Or in an electrical storm

And you won’t want for shelter

And you won’t want for love

When you become the substance of what I’m dreaming of

Electrical Storm: Side II

ELEMENTAL BABY

STAY WITH ME

DON’T FIGHT IT

BEING BORN

HOMEWARD BOUND

Elemental Baby

We started strong and grew in time

Your path and mine were intertwined

You loved what I loved and you knew that I loved you true

I remember how you looked at me

And lay down your heart in mine to keep

But even then in the vigor of youth, I should’ve felt it’s weight

Oh, when the nights are long

I dream the dream, I dream of you

Oh, when the nights are long

It’s hard to mend what cracks there are

When you defend and duck and spar

Any fissures or fractures that threaten the foundation of you

Oh, the hourglass of life is half way full

You can aim your arrows and actions to be cruel

Or you can lay down your sword and shield and allow yourself to be loved

They say I’m sentimental baby

They say boy you gotta move along

But I say it’s elemental baby

‘cause you cry every time that you hear my song

Daylight left and darkness followed

All my hopes and dreams well they got shattered

By that great big dusty monster that we all call time

And all the things that I thought mattered

They either disappeared or scattered

Even my eyes, even my eyes seem to lose their shine

Stay With Me

Oh, come with me

I’ll make you glad you did

The things that make you frightened

I make you forget

Cause on the hill

We all have to climb

I could use a hand

Don’t gotta be truthful

Don’t gotta be kind

Do gotta call me sweetheart

You just gotta be mine

Cause on the hill

We all have to climb

I could use a hand

Look over yonder

Oh, can’t you see

The hidden wonders

That await  for you and me

Oh, honey baby

I’ll help you climb

That highest hill

Oh, come with me

I’ll make you glad you did

The things that make you happy

I make you relive

Oh, honey baby

I’ll help you climb that highest hill

Don’t Fight It

When you fall in love, like so many times before

You just met that girl, but your whole world will fall

If she leaves your sight for a second or more

Don’t fight it, don’t fight it, feel it

When you look around and she’s gone from your sight

Don’t be alarmed, she just turned out the light

Her silhouette slips by, like a ship in the night

Don’t fight it, don’t fight it, feel it

Oh, I’ve been in love and the girls all indifferent

I’ve been in and out of love in just one day

Now I’m in love, but this time it’s different

It’s been 25 minutes and I still feel that way

I wrote you poems that only I would read

Carved both our names and a heart up on the tree

Hoping that you’d read it, if only in a dream

Don’t fight it, don’t fight it, feel it

Now you’re alone and only memories remain

It’s ok to be frightened, it’s ok to be afraid

Cause try as you may, all those memories will fade

So fight, fight it, feel it

Homeward Bound

Been up and down this storied country

I’ve seen a million smiles

I’m rolling down the blacktop baby

Yeah, I’m counting down the miles

And I pray that you’ve waited on me

Like I pray for your warm embrace

I had a dream that the devil warned me

Better take your time

Way up north where the frostbite warmed me

On the Continental divide

Where the wind blew through me

Just like a dagger from your eyes

And I woke to find the nightmare gone

Now I’m homeward bound but unbound

Yeah, I’m homeward bound but unbound

Seen the grassy plaines

The open prairie

The ever-present sky

The dust clouds, the tumbling weeds

I heard an eagle cry

And I hope that my absence caused you sorrow

And that my return is fit for Galilee

I’ve filled this car with a thousand treasures

And they’re all addressed to you

Charms and trinkets from across the nation

From Nazareth to Kalamazoo

And they’re packed with the loving care and attention

As one of them French men that must work at the Louvre

Now I’m homeward bound but unbound

Yeah, I’m homeward bound but unbound

I’m feeling tense on this final furlong

I can see your city lights

I’m slowing down ’til I’m going twenty

And I somersault inside

Now my paranoia’s gaining speed

Is it possible, could you have forgotten me?

It couldn’t be, no it wouldn’t happen

You can’t dampen my mood

I’ve dreamed this dream, from behind this wheel

I know it’s gonna come true

Now I see your silhouette, and it’s outlined by the lights

And I’m happily swallowed by your guile
